Its no wonder we get fake stories from our local newspapers in north Florida - the cops tell the reporters whatever they want to shine their hillbilly badges. But duh this is because the police in the Suwannee County Sheriff's department are looking at child porn. They got the big bust in 2015 for that crap. But we cant read about that in the suwannee democrat ? The suwannee democrat is a newspaper in Live Oak that is run by redneck pedophiles. There seems to be a problem in north Florida - Live Oak to be exact with these sickos. All the news you read in the paper is false there because it is run by cops that got busted with child porn. Start looking the news for Live Oak and Lake City areas from Jacksonville newspapers instead. They are trying to cover up what they are doing there. Google the Kyle Kirby child porn incident in Live Oak Florida. Its pretty bad when the FBI has to designate an agent just for a particular police department because of all of the weirdo crap coming from officers who didnt even make it through high school.

The only solution (in my opinion) is to build a wildlife fence with wildlife overpasses across the Island on all major highways. Banff National Park is a great example of wildlife fences/overpass construction. Maybe this is a good way to stimulate the economy touching almost every community across the Island...

I'm signing this for myself and the mother of the 13 year old girl who lost her life in a moose collision in September. It is time for Newfoundlanders to take a stand. October 13th there were 5 moose collisions in 80 minutes there is something wrong with this picture.

Always my main concern on the highways are the moose..Thank goodness we have the fence in place..I can breath better within that section of Nfld. I've seen many moose standing behind the fence between Gallants and Stephenville access road and I always say...another accident avoided..

I was involved in a collision with a moose last night(Aug. 29/13) on the TCH just outside Gander at dusk. I was not a distracted driver and driving less than the posted 100 Km limit but I was still blind-sided by that creature as it ran into my path from the ditch. I total my truck but was fortunate to walk way with minor cuts and bruises but I feel the anxiety and fear will stay with me a lot longer as I venture onto our NL Highways again. PLease be safe out there. I have learned first hand the terror and carnage a animal of this size can inflict when not controlled.

I was involved in an accident due to a moose in 1985, we wrote off a truck but luckily we all walked away. It was Dec. 23 and we felt lucky to be able to go home and spend Christmas with our families. It saddens me to think of those that didn't get that priviledge, and those who still suffer needlessly from having an encounter with a moose.

The economic and social burden of a brain injury can be significantly reduced by erecting moose fencing. The cost of moose fencing is far less than the medical and long term care costs of an injured person as a result of a moose collison. A brain injury doesn't change the life of the individual; it changes the lives of everyone around them!!!

Both my husband and I travel separate ways each day on the TCH. We see moose at least once per week. I am not confident that our child will grow up with both parents, one of us has a good chance of being killed by these unnecessary creatures. They are not food for people any longer, they are now a sport. Poor people can't afford to moose hunt.

The government needs to step up to the plate and take full responsibiliy for the very preventable slaughter of their citizens. My youngest brother was killed at the young age of 27 in a vehicle/moose collision. He left behind a young wife and two small daughters. Families who have suffered such tragic loss know the sorrow and heartache that remains with you for the rest of your life. It's time the government be held accountable. Let your voices be heard. There is a solution.....

[Private Signature] Signed on: 2011-06-12 12:22:46
You can't compare Nfld. with N.B. N.B. is a much smaller province with fewer moose. We need to eliminate a few thousand moose. Get the population down to about 50,000. Continue to cut back the brush and spray the areas so that the trees will not grow back. Fence certain areas. Deposit some salt blocks about 100 feet from the highway into the woods, again in high density areas; put up lighting in some areas; continue to educate drivers: be attentive, reduce speed at night, avoid driving at night if you can possibly do so.
Accidents will never be prevented entirely, but they certainly can be decreased. I am a careful driver and I have moose whistles on my car. I haven't seen a moose in years. Good luck! Please stop calling them nuisance moose. There are more nuisance drivers and crazy drivers on our roads. Don't forget we have disrupted their environment.

Faye Jones Signed on: 2011-06-10 17:35:44
These precautions are too little, too late for a lot of people. My brother was killed in a moose accident, leaving behind a young wife and two little girls. But we are naive if we think that the government cares at all. If they did, those fences would have been up years ago. This should be viewed as an urgent project.....get those fences up as quickly as possible! How many more people have to die needlessly?

[Private Signature] Signed on: 2011-06-10 12:26:56

Driving to work one morning, just before daylight is when I had a collision with a large moose, It came from out of nowhere it was like hitting a concrete wall. I had hit this animal so hard that it completely destroyed my van , it tore the motor mounts from the chasis puhing the engine back , completely broke off the sterring colume. The moose then hit my windsheild smashing through the glass and went completely over the top of my vehicle. As a result of the accident I sustained multiple cuts on my hands and face where the glass from the windsheild had embeded. I also sustained a boken hand as a result of the accident to which I now have a permanent injury with limited mobility. I consider myself very lucky, Thank god for air bags and seat belts. After I had my collision with a moose I had another near miss about a year later. I can no longer drive in the night in fear of hitting another moose. WE NEED SOMTHING DONE TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING TO PEOPLE OF OUR PROVINCE. Come on goverment of Newfoundland open your eyes!

[Private Signature] Signed on: 2011-06-07 10:15:54
It upsets me to hear people blame a lot of moose accidents on the drivers. Apparently these people have never had a collision with a moose. When our car was demolished I knew nothing until I felt the roof touch my head, thinking my glasses were shattered I removed them and instead of seeing broken glass, I saw that the inside of the glasses were covered in moose hair. Thank God we escaped with just a cut finger but others are not as fortunate. Kill them before they kill us! It would be great to drive at night without fear.

I can't help but notice our Government puts up guard rails on portions of the highways where there is more danger of going off the road. Why don't we have fencing in locations where it is more likely you will encounter a Moose? We know where these spots are, there are yellow signs indicating them along the highway. If you quickly google the fencing and warning systems available in other parts of the world, you’ll see that there is no place better suited and in need of such systems than in NL. Everyone from here that drives our highways is aware of this terrifying danger, the solution is simple, very effective, and in the long run will save this province money, let alone its people, please take action.

I so appreciate your efforts in bringing this issue to public notice and trying to do something about our overpopulation of moose in Newfoundland and Labrador!!

Why is our government more concerned about protecting the moose rather than protecting our people. It is time to get something done. There are so many moose around now that they even graze in our backyards like a pet.

I totally understand how a driver can hit a moose. Speed is not always a factor. I had a very close call on the southern shore hwy while driving 10km BELOW the posted speed limit. The number of moose has to reduced. We no longer need them for food.

To many moose roaming our highways and far to many moose vehicle accidents. I fear driving on our province's highways even driving below the speed limits.

Fences or cutting back the woods along the highways is crucial to the safety of all drivers on our highways.

[Private Signature] Signed on: 2011-06-02 12:36:02
Expensive to do fencing . But you can make a start an do the most dangerous areas first and complete it all over 20, 30 years . The important thing is to start .

A moose is LESS important than a person. PERIOD. Other provinces, like BC and NB have erected fences and overhead walkways for deer and/or moose.

I thank you for the work that you are doing. I hope with your efforts we can make Newfoundland safe for our people to drive the highways. I am in support of putting fences up along the highways even if we have to pay a toll to help with the cost.

I will never drive on the highways in the night. It is time to take our roads back and for PEOPLE not to be afraid to drive

R. Patey Signed on: 2011-06-02 03:59:40
A method of action must be taken to ensure the safety of the public from moose-vehicle collisions. More moose licenses would be great. I understand that there are an extra 5000, but that isn't enough. It's not all about moose either, drivers need to take they time, be more cautions and slow down while driving. If we do this, and the moose population is better controlled from entering our highways, there should be considerably less collisions.

R.King Signed on: 2011-06-02 03:47:23
I have travelled through New Bruwnswick, where moose fencing on their new highway has been erected. In all my travels I have never encountered a moose on their highways. We need this in Newfoundland!!

Effective action is needed before more people are unnecessarily sacrificed. Inaction is not only potentionally dangerous, but a sign of great insensitivity to the families of past victims. No one disputes the role speed can play, but to say that all accidents would have been, and will be, eliminated by slower speeds is inaccurate and far too simplistic.

There must definitely be something done NOW to control the moose vehicle collisions. There are WAY WAY WAY too many accidents on our highways. It breaks my heart to hear of a moose vehicle collision in the news, because it's something that could have been prevented if our highways were fenced!

There are too many moose, and to many accidents, something must be done to get rid of the moose along the highways, my daughter drives twice a day to and from college, it is scary from the time she leaves til she arrives back home....something, and I mean something needs to be done sooner than later

Shame on the provincial Govt. for ignoring this major problem on our highways.I fail to see why premier Dunbderdale won't address this terrrible situation. If she lost someone in this manner maybe she would do an about face. You have to walk in another persons shoes to fully understand how their lives are impacted by those tragedies.I have loved ones who travel the TCH frequently for work purposes and all I can think about when they are gone is receiving a phone call with devastating news of a moose accident.Other provinces fence highways. What is wrong with this province? Why are we always last to wake up ?
